To keep our commitment to you, we review benefits annually to ensure we continue to provide a range of support and services to help protect our members' health and wellbeing.
Changes to Extras cover
We’re here to help our members get the most from their membership while proactively supporting their health and wellbeing. That’s why we’ve made a number of improvements to your cover. These changes were implemented from 1 January 2026. We’ve outlined these changes below in detail.

We’ve increased benefits for the 20 most used dental services
Your cover prior to 1 January
You already had a benefit for a wide range of dental services including routine and restorative treatments.
Your cover from 1 January
Based on feedback from our Annual All Member survey, dental care was one of the top benefits members wanted improved. To support this, we’ve increased benefits across the 20 most commonly claimed dental items to help reduce out-of-pocket costs.
What this means for you
You’ll now receive higher benefits for the dental treatments you use most, making every day dental care more affordable.
This change applies to Ultimate Pro, Ultimate, Overseas Top Plus, Overseas Top, High Extras, High Extras Over 50’s, Gold, Gold 500, Gold Classic, Gold Classic 500, Mid, Athlete Protect, Athlete Defend, Athlete Shield, Athlete Guard, Athlete Vital, Athlete Core
No gap for several restorative items at Westfund Dental Centre
Your cover prior to 1 January
Restorative dental items were subject to standard benefit limits, often resulting in out-of-pocket costs.
Your cover from 1 January
When using visiting our Westfund Dental Centre, you’ll now receive 100% benefits (no-gap) for common restorative items including:
- Surface Metallic Restoration (item number: 511)
- Surface Adhesive restoration (item number: 521)
- Surface Posterior Adhesive Restoration (item number: 531)
What this means for you
When you visit our Westfund Dental Care Centre, eligible fillings and restorations will be fully covered with no-out-pocket costs, subject to your annual limit.
This change applies to all Extras.
We’ve expanded your Optical benefit to include lens tinting and coatings
Your cover prior to 1 January
Your cover included a benefit for standard prescription lenses.
Your cover from 1 January
Your Optical benefit now extends to lens tints and coatings, giving you more choice and reducing or even eliminating out-of-pocket costs.
What this means for you
You now have access to a broader range of lens tints and coating options to suit your needs. We hope this change helps you find the perfect pair of glasses while reducing your out-of-pocket costs.
This change applies to all Extras.
Your Sunglasses benefit limit is increasing by $25
Your cover prior to 1 January
Your Optical benefit included a sunglasses limit of $50.
Your cover from 1 January
Your sunglasses limit will increase by $25.
What this means for you
You can now claim $75 towards sunglasses at Westfund Eye Care, Care Centres or when purchasing online through The Collection – making it easier to protect your eyes and stay sun-safe.
This change applies to Starter, Essential Pro, Mid, High, Choice, High Extras Over 50s, Athlete Vital, Athlete Core, Gold Ancillary, Gold 500 Ancillary, Gold Classic, Gold Classic 500 Ancillary and Overseas Top.
Your cover prior to 1 January
Your Optical benefit included a sunglasses limit of $75.
Your cover from 1 January
Your sunglasses limit will increase by $25.
What this means for you
You can now claim $100 towards sunglasses at Westfund Eye Care, Care Centres or when purchasing online through The Collection – making it easier to protect your eyes and stay sun-safe.
This change applies to Ultimate, Athlete Protect, Athlete Shield, Athlete Defend and Overseas Top Plus.

Your Optical benefit included a sunglasses limit of $100.
Your cover from 1 January
Your sunglasses limit will increase by $25.
What this means for you
You can now claim $125 towards sunglasses at Westfund Eye Care, Care Centres or when purchasing online through The Collection – making it easier to protect your eyes and stay sun-safe.
This change applies to Ultimate Pro.
You can now see accredited counsellors and social workers under your existing Clinical Psychology benefit
Your cover prior to 1 January
Counselling and social worker benefits were not payable on your cover.
Your cover from 1 January
We’ve extended access to accredited counsellors and social workers under your existing Clinical Psychology benefit.
What this means for you
You can now access additional mental wellbeing support when needed, under the same limits as your Clinical Psychology benefit.
This change applies to High Extras Over 50s, Essential Pro, and Starter Extras.
You can now claim Cancer Council approved sun protection items under your Health Management benefit
Your cover prior to 1 January
There was no benefit for sun-protection items.
Your cover from 1 January
You can now claim Cancer Council-approved UV sunscreen, hats, and rash shirts under your existing Health Management benefit.
What this means for you
You’ll be supported to take a proactive approach to skin protection and preventative health.
This change applies to all Extras excluding Athlete Guard
You’ll receive a higher benefit for podiatry consultations
Your cover prior to 1 January
You already had a benefit for podiatry services under your Extras cover.
Your cover from 1 January
We’ve increased the per-item podiatry benefits.
What this means for you
You’ll now get more money back for each podiatry consultation, which helps lower your out-of-pocket costs and makes looking after your feet more affordable.
This change applies to Ultimate Pro, Ultimate, Overseas Top Plus, Overseas Top, High Extras, High Extras Over 50’s, Gold, Gold 500, Gold Classic, Gold Classic 500, Mid, Athlete Protect, Athlete Defend, Athlete Shield, Athlete Vital, Athlete Core, Starter, Essential Pro
Optical Digital Centration benefit will now be under the Eye Health Tests benefit
Your cover prior to 1 January
Optical Digital Centration was a separate benefit at Westfund Eye Care providers.
Your cover from 1 January
This benefit has been moved under the Eye Health Tests category to simplify claiming.
What this means for you
There is no impact on your cover or benefit amount. This is a process change.
This change applies to all Extras excluding Athlete Guard.
