Westfund announces Healthy Futures Scholarship program, supporting the next generation of Doctors and Dentists in the regions

Lithgow, NSW: Westfund Health Insurance, Australia’s leading regional health fund, is proud to announce the launch of its Westfund Healthy Futures Scholarship program in partnership with Charles Sturt University.

The Westfund Healthy Futures Scholarship program awards two scholarships annually, each valued at $10,000. Eligible courses include Charles Sturt University’s full-time Doctor of Medicine program and the full-time Bachelor of Dental Science program. The announcement of the scholarship recipients will take place in April 2024.

Westfund’s scholarship program and partnership with Charles Sturt University will extend for three years. As part of this collaboration, scholarship recipients will also have the opportunity to undertake course-based work placements at the Westfund Dental Centre Centre in Lithgow, expanding their experience in regional healthcare settings.

This initiative highlights Westfund's commitment to tackling healthcare differences in regional areas. Liz Casmiri, Westfund's Chief Health Care Services Officer, says, “The Westfund Healthy Futures Scholarship program is an important step toward addressing the healthcare disparities outlined in our recently launched Regional Health Gap Report. By promoting education and encouraging passionate healthcare professionals to study in regional areas, we are actively supporting the development of stronger and healthier communities."

A previous scholarship recipient in the field of Medicine at Charles Sturt University shared, "The scholarship I was awarded last year has been instrumental in helping me to be a step closer to achieving my dream of practicing rural medicine. It has provided invaluable support and encouragement on my journey."
